Recorder for in-person meetings, not video-call bots

Verbale records through your phone's microphone, so it is made for meetings in a room. It does not join video calls as a bot; a call on speaker works, because the microphone hears it.

How it works

  1. Put the phone on the table, close to everyone who will speak, and tap record.
  2. Carry on with the meeting. Recording continues with the screen off or in another app, and you can tap Mark to flag a moment as a highlight.
  3. Stop recording and the phone writes the transcript, speakers and minutes, then notifies you when they are ready.

What you get

  • Free, forever, no account: the transcript by speaker, decisions, action items and open questions, search for every word, and copy for any write-up.
  • Pro, with a 7-day free trial through Google Play: unlimited meetings of any length, a larger transcriber for accents and bad rooms, and export to PDF, Markdown, text, SRT subtitles and MP3.
  • No bot appears in anyone's call, and no guest list is needed.

Privacy

Recordings, transcripts and minutes are made on your phone and never uploaded. The free tier needs no account. The app uses the network for only three things: a one-time download of its speech models, checking a subscription, and opt-in crash reports that never carry content. It has a screen that counts every network call it makes.

Questions

Can it join a video call by itself?

No. It does not join calls. It records what the phone's microphone hears, so a call played on speaker can be recorded, but it is designed for a room.

Where should I put the phone?

In the middle of the table, close to the people speaking and away from fans or laptop keyboards. In a big room, a phone at one end will miss quiet voices at the other.

Does it tell the speakers apart?

It separates the voices into speakers and labels the transcript by speaker. Similar voices or crosstalk can still be mixed up, so check anything important.

Do I have to tell people I am recording?

Get consent from everyone before recording a meeting. The rules differ by place and situation, and asking first is also just polite.
